Since 2021, the Government of India opened all 133 Sainik Schools to girl students. Out of every 100 seats in any Sainik School, 20 are reserved exclusively for girls and 80 for boys.

Within the 20 girls seats, there are further divisions by category — SC, ST, Defence, OBC and General. A girl from the General category faces the highest competition because after SC/ST/Defence/OBC reservations, only a small number of General seats remain. A girl must score among the top in her specific category to secure admission.

For Class 9 seats for girls: how many seats are there in Sainik School for Class 9 for girls depends on the school. Generally 20% of the Class 9 intake is for girls. However, not all Sainik Schools admit girls for Class 9 — check the specific school before applying.
